Consecrated Life
Consecrated Virgins
The custom of consecrating women to a life of virginity dates back to the time of the very early Church; the rite was revised following the Second Vatican Council.
Today Consecrated Virgins live a life totally dedicated to God through their public consecration to a life of virginity. This is an individual vocation as distinct from one lived in a congregation or institute; it is a vocation lived in the world, under the direction of the Diocesan Bishop.
Consecrated Virgins spend their time in works of penance and mercy, apostolic activity and prayer. They are financially independent of the Church.
Consecrated Widows
Consecrated Widows who desire to give their lives totally to God do so through a vow of celibacy. Financially independent of the Church one lives the life in the circumstances in which one finds oneself and witnesses to God's love in work and parish.

The Cenacolo Community, although not strictly a community of a Religious order or Congregation, is a new Christian association of the Faithful that welcomes desperate young people suffering from the strains of life, and who may have turned to drug addiction, alcohol or other substance abuse. In a rich community life of work and prayer they recover for a new life in society.
Today there are some 40 houses spread throughout Italy, and the rest of Europe and the Americas. There are separate houses for men and women. and we are blessed to have a foundation (for young men), at the initiative of Bishop O’Donoghue, here in our own Lancaster Diocese at Dodding Green near Kendal.
Life in the community is simple with no television, radio or newspapers. Neither are cigarettes drugs of any description or alcohol allowed. Prayer, reflection, discussion and work are interwoven so that each person can overcome the fears of the past as they seek to make themselves known in the light of the truth.
Each new member is given a 'guardian angel' - a fellow member who has lived in the community for some time who offers love, support and encouragement through the difficult first months in community.
