Our Bishop's Coat of Arms

Blazon of the Coat of Arms for

Rt Rev Michael Campbell OSA,

Sixth Bishop of Lancaster

The shield for Bishop Campbell’s Coat of Arms is divided in two, the left hand side is for the diocese and the right hand side for the bishop personally: a silver (white) field; in the centre a closed green book with gilded corners and strap depicting the Bishop’s devotion to the Word of God in Sacred Scripture; above it an enflamed heart pierced by an arrow for the Order of St Augustine and below a green mound for the Glens of Antrim (N. Ireland) where Bishop Campbell comes from.

The shield is surmounted by a green galero (clerical hat) with cords intertwined, and six fiocci (tassels) arranged one, two and three, hanging down to either side. Behind the shield is a jewelled processional cross – all according to Roman episcopal style.

Below the shield appears the Bishop’s episcopal motto scroll reads: “Ecce nova facio omnia” (Behold I make all things new) from Revelation 21:5.
